Kawabe Gion Festival Fireworks Festival

This festival boasts a 100-year history. The 'Kawabe Gion Festival', celebrating its 100th year since Taisho 14, is a festival of Yasaka Shrine, praying for the dispelling of epidemics, warding off misfortunes, abundant harvests, and prosperous trade. The shopping street becomes a pedestrian heaven, where exquisitely decorated portable shrines, floats, and dancing groups parade. At night, about 2,000 fireworks and music fireworks that rhythmically shoot up in time with the music will conclude the event.
