You can observe the cattle auction for beef calves, held once every two months, for free. Okinawa Prefecture ranks 4th in the nation for calf production. Many farmers in Kumejima also engage in livestock farming, bringing calves that have been raised for about 10 months to the auction. At the auction, farmers from outside the prefecture (those who raise cattle for meat production) purchase the calves, most of which are shipped as branded beef across the country.
