Saruoi - Wisdom of Ancestors Living with Nature

Flood control born from coexistence with nature
In an era without large-scale riverbank construction or dams, 'Saruoi' was utilized to change the direction of river current and reduce flood damage to the village. With the cooperation of Higashiomi City, the existence of Saruoi has been confirmed in the middle reaches of the Aichi River in Shiga Prefecture through the investigation of the Aichi River Eco-DRR Project, and it has been highly evaluated academically. This introduces the challenges of researchers who have rediscovered the buried past by combining different research methods, and the wisdom of ancestors living with nature.
