Yagoten Kannon Chita Sub-temple Festival (September)

Wishing at the miraculous Yagoten Kannon
Kyoto, the famous Yagoten Kannon, Yokoji Temple. A monthly event, the festival, is held at Shomyoji, a Chita sub-temple. On that day, a ceremony is held where the names of individual worshippers are read aloud so that their wishes can be fulfilled. Participants in the ceremony receive a protective charm called zukou. It is a scented charm that can be exchanged for a new one every month. After the ceremony, there will be a simple tea gathering. After the ceremony, along with the usual goshuin seal, those who wish may receive a whimsical goshuin, where the chief priest writes characters on a whim.
