Hida Kosaka Chikara Mochi Kotaro Fire Festival

A magnificent festival where bare young men carry the portable shrine and march
The Hida Kosaka Chikara Mochi Kotaro Fire Festival is based on the legend of Kotaro, who pulled up a Nio statue that had suffered a great fire and offered it as a memorial, claiming to have received immense strength. Every year, on the night of August 14th, a lively parade begins with a lantern car followed by the dynamic Iwadate drums, and the leading oncoming procession features the 'Eight Generals' on two floats, the red Nio and blue Nio, carried by bare young men wrapped in sashes, marching through the city. The festival concludes with fireworks.
