Shinmei Shrine Chinowa Festival

A traditional event to transfer misfortunes to the thatch ring and purify the body and mind
The Shinmei Shrine's Chinowa Kuguri announces the arrival of summer in the Hachinohe region. By passing through a large ring made of thatch, participants cleanse themselves of impurities from the first half of the year and pray for good health for the remaining six months. In addition to the performance of ceremonial kagura dances and a bon odori festival, numerous stalls line the shrine grounds, allowing visitors to experience an early summer festival atmosphere.
