Yokote Bon Odori Festival Supporting Fireworks Display

This year too, spectacular fireworks color the summer of Yokote
The Bon Odori Festival is said to have started about 300 years ago in the mid-Edo period when Yokote was frequently afflicted by famines. To commemorate the deceased, the local community in Yanagimachi (present-day Chuo-machi) made yakatabune (houseboats), adorned them with willow branches, and hung strips of paper with the names of the deceased. They would then go out to the Janasaki Riverbank. Alongside the procession of yakatabune, fireworks are a must-see. The collaboration of the large fireworks launched from Castle Mountain and the yakatabune is truly spectacular.
