Kai Ichinomiya Bonfire
On the night of Obon, a summer tradition that began in the Edo period.
"Kai Ichinomiya Bonfire" is a festival in Ichinomiya Town, Fuefuki City that revived a festival that had been held as a fire for guiding spirits during the Obon period since the Edo period, about 150 years ago. Every year on August 16, a gigantic letter 'Dai' rises on the mountainside. Traditionally, it was lit by torches, but since Heisei 29, it has only used electric lighting.
