Slug Festival
There are slugs that appear at the grave of Monk Bunkaku
On the night of the 9th of July in the lunar calendar (99,000 days), a slug crawls up to the grave of Monk Bunkaku and disappears with the dawn... Here, the slugs, which are considered pests elsewhere, are treated as a symbol of 'people from history coming back to life' and are venerated in the bizarre festival 'Slug Festival'. The highlight is a lottery with luxurious prizes related to slugs, the 'Namekuji' sales. There are also stalls and bon odori that add to the festivities.
