The "Hyakunin Isshu," a selection of one poem each from one hundred excellent poets from the Asuka to Kamakura periods compiled by the master of waka poetry, Fujiwara no Teika, is also called "Ogura Hyakunin Isshu" due to its compilation in a villa on Mount Ogura, near the Saga Arashiyama Museum of Art. These waka reflecting the sensibilities of one hundred poets shimmer like an ancient "best 100 songs" that are still beloved today. This exhibition will showcase numerous Japanese paintings that evoke the scenes and landscapes depicted in the Hyakunin Isshu.
