Weeping Cherry Blossom of Chikuin - Peak Bloom

A single weeping cherry blossom adds color to the historic site
The weeping cherry blossom of Chikuin, with a trunk circumference of 3.2m, a height of 10m, and an estimated age of around 420 years, is designated as a natural monument of the town. It was originally a part of the Chikuin temple, which was a main temple of the Geihoku Old 24 Temples, but was abandoned in accordance with the Imperial Edict of 1872 stating no administration or residence. The current weeping cherry blossom was planted in the garden of the Chikuin temple, which was destroyed in a typhoon in 1943 but was restored by the efforts of the villagers. In 2003, the trunk was repaired by an arborist, maintaining its vigor and continuing to add beauty to the historic site.
