Shinminato Hikiyama Festival

A majestic yet elegant hikiyama procession
One of the autumn festivals at Hōshōtsu Hachiman Shrine, the "Shinminato Hikiyama Festival." With a distinctive chant of "Iyasā, Iyasā," a total of 13 hikiyama (festival floats) from across the prefecture parade through the town, transforming from "Hanayama" during the day to "Chōchin-yama" at night. The spectacle is magnificent and splendid, bringing the local community together in celebration. It is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset by the country.
