[Cherry Blossom Peak] Uomi Sakura

[Cherry Blossom Peak] Uomi Sakura

A giant cherry tree deeply rooted in the local community, loved and cherished

Uomi Sakura (West side of Yatsushima Shrine)

Mid-Mar~Late Mar

This giant cherry tree stands out in the bamboo grove to the west of Yatsushima Shrine, flowering in the ruins of the residence of the Jonai family, who served as the chief of Tsuji Village during the Edo period. It is said to be over 400 years old. This cherry tree blooms spectacularly ahead of the surrounding area during the equinox and is locally known as 'Shoya no Sakura' or 'Higan Sakura'. Additionally, local fishermen refer to it as 'Uomi Sakura' because they observe the bloom's condition to estimate the sea water temperature, adjusting their fishing methods and nets accordingly.
