Matsumae Cherry Blossom Festival

At the southernmost tip of Hokkaido, Matsumae retains the atmosphere of a castle town. In Matsumae Park, 250 varieties and 10,000 cherry trees bloom one after another over a month. Some of the oldest trees are said to be around 300 years old, and you can feel the arrival of spring against the backdrop of ancient temples. During the festival period, various events, including local performing arts such as Matsumae Kagura and stage events, are planned mainly on weekends and holidays.

About 100 km (approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes) from Hakodate Airport via National Route 228.

Access (Public)

Take the JR Kikonai Station to Matsumae Branch Office bound Hakodate Bus for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, get off at 'Matsusho', and walk about 7 minutes.
