Gesshoji Lantern Festival
Gesshoji is enveloped in a mystical light.
The temple grounds are illuminated by approximately 500 lanterns to commemorate the ancestors of the Matsudaira lords and other families. Visitors are given candles to light at gravesites and along the paths. The grounds are beautifully enveloped in a mystical light. This nighttime viewing is available only on this day of the year.
