Hodojima Summer Festival

Summer festival of the fishing island
Kamo Shrine, which is said to have been founded in the 4th year of Tenbun (1535) as a protective deity of Hodojima, was dedicated by the Kamigamo Shrine from Kyoto. The "Hodojima Summer Festival," which is the summer grand festival of Kamo Shrine, is held over two days. True to being a fishing island, one can witness the impressive sight of men carrying the portable shrine into the sea. Besides the religious rituals and Kagura performances, there will be a fish-catching tournament, and fireworks will be held on the final day, bustling with many islanders and visiting tourists.
