Himejima Bon Odori

A night captivating with inherited traditions and new dances
The Himejima Bon Odori is said to have originated from the Nembutsu dance of the Kamakura period, featuring both traditional and creative dances. Traditional dances include the Fox Dance and Aya Dance, among others. Additionally, new creative dances entertain viewers with unique costumes. The event is held for two days every year on August 14 and 15, with night ferry services operating on both days, attracting many visitors. In March 2012, it was designated as a 'Nationally Selected Intangible Folk Cultural Asset.'
