Benkei Festival

A festival held in Tanabe City, the birthplace of Benkei
The festival in Tanabe City is related to the legend that Benkei was the child of the Kumano Betto who ruled the Tanabe area, and various artifacts related to Benkei are passed down throughout the city. It started in 1987 as the 'Musashibo Benkei Kumano Navy Expedition 800th Anniversary Festival.' Events include theater performances of the Benkei legend starting Friday evening, Benkei Geta Dance and Oniwaka Taiko on Saturday, along with various events like Kishu Benkei Yosakoi dance and a product tent market. A firework festival takes place on Saturday night.
