[Sakura Blossom] Matsumae Clan Togiri-chi Jinya Ruins
A beautiful cherry blossom spot with a tunnel of cherry blossom trees
The jinya was constructed by the shogunate to strengthen the defense of Ezo during the opening of Hakodate Port. It was burned and abandoned by the guarding force during the Hakodate War in the first year of the Meiji era (1868) due to the advance of the shogunate's fleeing army, and is currently managed as a nationally designated cultural property. The tunnel of cherry blossom trees leading from the road to the jinya ruins is famous as a cherry blossom spot.
