The painter-monk Yesson Shukei, from the Sengoku period, is said to have been born in Hitachi Province (now Ibaraki Prefecture). He spent the first half of his life in this area and later wandered around the Kanto region, learning from ancient paintings at times and turning his gaze toward nature to create numerous masterpieces. In this exhibition, visitors can appreciate the magnificence of Yesson's works, which continue to captivate many people, crossing borders even today.
