Itako Gion Matsuri

A festival with over 800 years of history and tradition
A festival with a history and tradition of over 800 years. Adding color to the festival are the lion dances from the three neighborhoods and a total of 14 festival floats, along with the "Itako Bayashi" performed by the musicians on these floats. Three of the floats are designated cultural properties by the prefecture, and Itako Bayashi is recognized as an intangible cultural asset by the prefecture. The highlight is the "kurabiki" represented by the "nonoji-mawashi" and "soroban-hiki," where the young men, floats, and performing groups unite in a sight not to be missed.
