Oyu Odaiko Festival (Akita Prefecture Intangible Folk Cultural Asset)

Large taiko drums struck by a group of four
The Oyu Odaiko Festival is held every year on August 15, combining prayers for abundant harvests and ancestor worship, and has been designated as an intangible folk cultural asset of the prefecture. The taiko players consist of a group of four: one drummer and three assistants, performing vigorously and splendidly. The sight of 50 large taiko drums, each about 1.2 meters in diameter and 1.5 meters long, gathered together to compete is truly breathtaking.
