Arashiyama Momiji Festival

A historical pageant unfolded against the backdrop of autumn leaves
Every year on the second Sunday of November, a ceremony is held to express gratitude to Zao Gongen, the guardian deity of the Arashiyama area, celebrating the beauty of the autumn leaves of Arashiyama and Ogurayama, beloved by the noble class of the Heian period. Elegant boats, including the Heian-style 'Imayo' boats, depart from the vicinity of Togetsukyo Bridge, showcasing performances related to Arashiyama along the banks of the Oi River.
