Around Tsuruoka Park

10/6(Mon)

Shonai Domain, known as the setting for movies and novels. Tsuruoka City was a castle town governed by the Sakai clan, Daimyo of the Tokugawa family for 240 years during the Edo period, with a production of 140,000 koku. In the 10th year of Meiji, when Shonai Shrine was founded, the Daimyo procession was recreated by citizens. During the festival, about 400 participants, including the "Shonai Domain Traditional Daimyo Procession," parading with the golden ryotan spear granted by the ruler Hideyoshi at the forefront, along with yokai dancers, armored warriors, women, dance princesses, and children, unfold a historical scroll in the castle town of Tsuruoka.
