Sumiyoshi Festival

A grand festival that concludes the summer festivals of Osaka
The Sumiyoshi Festival, which concludes Osaka's last summer festival, has the significance of purification throughout Osaka, and has long been referred to as 'oharai'. It begins with the Mikoshi Washing Ritual on Marine Day, followed by the Mikoshi Procession to Sakai on July 27, the 'Evening Festival' on July 30, the 'Summer Purification Ritual (Intangible Folk Cultural Asset of Osaka Prefecture, Recorded Selection) & Grand Festival' on the following day, July 31, and concludes with the 'Tonkatsu Festival & Iwasaki Bori Purification Ritual (Designated Intangible Folk Cultural Asset of Sakai City)' held at the Shuian Tonko on August 1.
