Fire Festival

A Festival of Wonder
A summer tradition that colors the night sky of Bon. The festival takes place at the Hibari-no, the place of worship for the Hino Festival, known as Kamioda. At Gosha Shrine, the guardian deity of Kamioda, torches are lit and a procession centered around three children of this year's Hino Festival heads towards Hibari-no. Upon arrival at Hibari-no, in sync with a drum signal, hundreds of torches are thrown up into the pine trees. It is said that if many torches accumulate in the pine, that year will have a good harvest. A grand festival.
