Many of the tea utensils that represent the Honma Art Museum's collection were passed down from the Honma family, known as wealthy merchants in Sakata. They include items received from feudal lords such as the Sakai family of the Shonai domain and the Uesugi family of the Yonezawa domain, as well as those sought for entertaining guests. This exhibition focuses on tea bowls and tea containers. The tea bowl, a vessel for drinking tea, and the tea container, a ceramic vessel for holding matcha, are essential to the tea ceremony and have a rich history of being cherished by many tea masters. ■Notes Curator's gallery talk on June 8 (Sunday) at 11:00 AM.
