Yoshida Fire Festival (Chinpo Festival) Susuki Festival

One of the 'Three Great Festivals of Japan' and 'Top 10 Fire Festivals of Japan'
The Yoshida Fire Festival (Chinpo Festival) is held at the Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine and its affiliated Suwa Shrine. It is particularly well-known for the large torches being lit throughout the town on the night of 8/26. As the name "Chinpo Festival" suggests, it is a festival to soothe the eruptions of Mt. Fuji and is based on the story of the deity giving safe childbirth amidst fierce flames. It is designated as an intangible folk cultural asset of Yamanashi Prefecture. Various rituals and events take place over the two days. After this festival, Mt. Fuji ends its brief summer, and the Fujikubo region welcomes autumn.
