About 10,000 lanterns illuminate the town in a fantastical manner
The summer tradition of Iiyama City, 'Iiyama Lantern Festival'. In August 2016, it was designated as a 'Japanese Nightscape Heritage' (Illuminated Nightscape Heritage). Approximately 10,000 handmade lanterns, using traditional crafts such as Uchiyama paper, create a fantastical display in the streets of Iiyama at dusk. The event features two parts: the 'Active' part with vibrant happenings centered around dance events, and the 'Quiet' part where guests enjoy the light of the lanterns and performances. There will also be food and beverage booths.
