Bonboko Festival

Held after 18 years wishing for recovery and bountiful catches
The Shinminato Bonboko Festival is held as a spring festival at Nishinomiya Shrine in Honmachi, Shinminato City, following a performance of the Bonboko dance by the dancers, after which a maritime procession takes place on decorated boats. This year marks the return of the festival after 18 years due to the occurrence of the Noto Peninsula earthquake, and the continued poor catches of snow crab and white shrimp in Toyama Prefecture. The festival is said to have been named from the sound of the taiko drums resonating as "Bonboko." After the rituals at the shrine, the Bonboko dance is offered in front of the deity. It is a festival that prays for the safety of fishermen and abundant catches.
