Reiwa 7, 151st Annual Miyako Odori

A dance performance by the maiko and geiko of Gion Kobu. It began as a plan by Jiroemon Sugiura of the Bantei and Hachiyo Inoue, the head of the Inoue school, for a special event at the Kyoto Exposition held in 1872 as a measure to revitalize Kyoto, which had declined after the capital moved to Tokyo in 1868. The new ideas were well received, and it became an annual event, now held as one of Kyoto's representative festivities. In the 7th year of Reiwa, this is the first step toward a new milestone.
