Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine Summer Grand Festival
Summer Festival of the Shrine Associated with the Otomo Clan
Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine was established in the 7th year of Kenkyu (1195) when the first feudal lord, Otomo Yoshinaga, entered the country as the guardian of Buzenn and Bungo, welcoming the deity from Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine in Kamakura, and was enshrined as the guardian deity of the Funai Domain. Prior to the grand festival, a children's mikoshi parade will take place on July 6th (Sunday), and on July 14th (Monday), a children's chikirin tournament and rice cake throwing, as well as a chikirin parade by volunteers, will be held. On July 15th (Tuesday), there will be a mikoshi parade and donated kagura.
