Kumano Hayatama Shrine Grand Festival

Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset "Kumano Hayatama Festival"
The Kumano Hayatama Shrine Grand Festival, which colors the autumn of the Kumano region, is a grand festival that reenacts the majestic arrival of the deities seated at the center of the Kumano Three Mountains. The festival begins with the "Ritual in front of the Main Hall" and takes place over two days until the "Hayabune Race". The Hayabune Festival is a powerful Shinto ritual with a history spanning approximately 1000 years. In March 2016, it was designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset by the national government.
