Nankan Summer Festival Gion-san

A fierce-looking giant snake parades through the shopping district
A magnificent festival held in midsummer, featuring rituals dedicated to the spirit of Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto. The main attraction of this festival is a 3-meter tall, fierce-looking giant snake float, accompanied by unique festival sounds of gongs and drums. During the day, children pull the float, and at night, young people take over, parading through the old Seki-machi shopping district in Nankan. At night, sparks are scattered from the mouth of the giant snake, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
