Born in Yoshida Town (now Tsubame City), Niigata Prefecture in 1920, Manipulating Yokoyama (1920-1973) was an artist active during the post-war transition period of Japanese painting. He used subjects such as the great nature's threats and modern structures, which were entirely different from the traditional ideals sought in Japanese painting, and was referred to as a "young hero" for opening up a new aspect of Japanese painting with his originality. This exhibition follows the brief yet dense artistic career of an artist who showed a highly unique presence in the post-war Japanese painting scene. ■Notes Expo-related event
