Its history is ancient, dating back to the Eiroku period when, during an epidemic, all the parishioners prayed for the healing of the plague and, in gratitude for the fulfillment of their wishes, erected a portable shrine and served during the Shinkosai festival. The grand portable shrine carried by sixty people leads more than ten decorated banners along the Hikosan River, vividly dyeing the entire Okawa area, which is enveloped in fresh greenery, in a festive atmosphere. It is a grand event that is both heroic and magnificent. It is designated as the first intangible folk cultural asset of Fukuoka Prefecture. Shuttle buses operate every 15 minutes between Tagawa City Hall and Tagawa Information Center.
