Spring Kōbō Matsuri Hot Water Fetching Ceremony

Beloved as 'Spring Kōbō-san'
An annual event held in gratitude to Kōbō Daishi, who is said to have brought forth Shuzenji Onsen, this is a spring tradition of Shuzenji Onsen. Young women in matching kimonos, selected from the city, fetch water from the Dokko no Yu with a bucket provided by the monks, parade through the streets of Shuzenji Onsen, and offer the fetched water at the altar of Kōbō Daishi in the main hall of Shuzenji Temple. The parade features around 250 participants, including the young water-fetching women and monks/children, all carrying buckets of hot water.
