Tengusa & Tokoroten Festival

One of Japan's leading sources of tengusa!
Nishiizu Town is one of Japan's leading sources of tengusa (red algae), known for its high quality. Every year, from mid-May, tengusa fishing takes place, and as part of this, an event is held where the local specialty 'tokoroten' made from freshly harvested tengusa is offered for free to visiting tourists. In 2025, in addition to the local specialty 'tokoroten (first 1,000 servings each day)', the local gourmet 'shio katsu udon (first 250 servings each day)' will also be provided for free.
