Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Grand Festival: Yabusame Ritual

A tradition of 800 years passed down
For three days from September 14 to 16, the Grand Festival is held. On the 16th, archers clad in hunting attire reminiscent of Kamakura warriors shoot arrows at three targets set up in the horse riding ground while galloping on horses in a magnificent Yabusame ritual. The event is performed by the Ogasawara school of archery and horsemanship.
