The pottery market on Gojō Street in Kyoto, which started in the Taisho era, developed into a pottery festival as Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine became known as the 'Pottery Shrine'. During the Showa era, potteries from all over Japan gathered, creating a lively scene, but it was canceled after 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, a committee composed of young potters was established, and the festival will resume in 2024. Over 80 potteries, artists, and local restaurants are expected to participate in 2025. A lively four days where people and pottery meet will return to the streets of Gojō, where tradition and new sensibilities intersect.
