The Shimonoseki Municipal Archaeological Museum will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2025. As a commemorative special exhibition, it will explore the true nature of the Uenoyama burial mound from around the first half of the 6th century, which represents Shimonoseki City, and from its outstanding burial goods, we can infer the involvement of the Yamato imperial authority. This exhibition will bring together the artifacts excavated from the Uenoyama burial mound, which are housed in the Tokyo National Museum, alongside significant burial mounds and settlement excavated materials from the late Kofun period in this city, and will examine the historical significance from the trends of Yamato imperial authority and local influential leaders at Anamon.
