Doll floating and Tanabata event passed down in the Ooyama area
A Tanabata event accompanied by doll floating that is passed down in the Ooyama area of Kurobe City, Toyama Prefecture. Stakes are driven into both banks of the Yusui River, which flows through the area and is just over 1 meter wide, and Tanabata decorations are lined up, creating a vibrant tunnel of Tanabata. Children create colorful 'ane-sama' dolls, boats, lanterns, etc., and enter the river to float them away. This event is passed down as a ritual to purify the body and mind from impurities and disasters, and is cherished as an intangible folk cultural asset by the prefecture and the region.
