Torii Kōjin Shrine Tondo Burning

Japan's Traditional Event - Tondo Burning
On the mornings of January 5th to 8th, talismans, shimenawa ropes, and New Year's decorations collected are stacked high and burned in a ritual. Around the fire, children chant 'Tondoya Tondo' while striking the ground with green bamboo. After that, rice cakes hung on bamboo poles are roasted in the fire. Eating these rice cakes becomes a charm for a year of good health and safety. Candies are distributed to participating children. ■ Notes Old shimenawa and other items can be submitted until the morning of January 5th to 8th.
