The Shiratori Dance is characterized by its exhilarating tempo and the hanging of Kiriko lanterns under which people dance. The Kiriko lanterns, which are hung during Obon, have a deep connection to Buddhism. It is said that they began being displayed at the worship hall of Nagataki Hakusan Shrine during the syncretic era of Shinto and Buddhism, and this tradition has been passed down to shrines across the country, highlighting the depth of Hakusan faith. The dance is performed from mid-July to late August, especially during Obon on August 13, 14, and 15, when celebrations continue until around 4 AM.
