Hangiri Dashi

A traditional event held every year on August 16, after the Bon festival
The water guardians were established to manage the tidal pools created during the land reclamation in the late Edo period, and they were granted fishing rights for these tidal pools in exchange for their salary. They set specific days to issue permits and catch ennai (juvenile mullet), which is the origin of the tradition. "Hangiri" refers to a feed bucket for horses, and the event is called Hangiri Dashi because it used a shallow bucket known as "hankiri." This traditional event is held in the Hirose district every year on August 16, after the Bon festival.
