Nagafuji Festival at Tokkoji

The Nagafuji at Tokkoji is an ancient tree derived from 'Nagafuji of Kumano' at Gyokkoji, which is associated with the Noh play 'Kumano'. The wisteria tree, approximately 100 years old, spans 20 meters on each side and produces flower clusters of up to 1 meter, blooming and drooping with a sweet fragrance during the season. During the Nagafuji Festival, performances and stalls by the local preservation society are held. At night, the Nagafuji is illuminated, allowing visitors to enjoy a different atmosphere from the daytime. ■Notes For inquiries, from April 17 to 30, contact the Nagafuji Preservation Society; outside this period, inquiries can be directed to the Makinohara City Tourism Division (0548-53-2623).
