Fuhwa Hachiman Grand Festival

A festival with the wedding of the gods
About 540 years ago, during the time when Ichijo no Kimiko established his office in Nakamura to manage his estate while avoiding the Onin War, he invited the Hachimangu Shrine of Ishikiyomizu in Yamashiro as the guardian deity of the Ichijo family, as well as the overall guardian of Hata. The main hall was designated as an important cultural property and renovation work was conducted on November 1, 1965. Various events take place during the Fuhwa Hachiman Shrine festival, among which the wedding ceremony of the gods is said to have started as a way to admonish the barbaric custom of abduction marriage that was prevalent at the time, making it a rare divine event even nationally.
