In the third year of Tensho (1575), Oda Nobunaga established Kitashou as the base for governing Echizen Province and appointed his formidable vassal, Shibata Katsuie, as the lord of the castle. The castle that Katsuie built is thought to have been a magnificent structure, with the castle town featuring a grand half-stone, half-wood bridge that was considered to surpass Nobunaga's stronghold, Azuchi (located in Omi Hachiman City, Shiga Prefecture), in its vastness. This exhibition commemorates the 450th anniversary of Kitashou Castle's construction and introduces the castle and its town, which became the origin of the castle town Fukui.
