Dragon Palace Festival

Reflecting on the Dragon Palace legend of 'Urashima Taro'
The Dragon Palace Festival, where a large sand sea turtle is created on the sandy beach, praying for a good catch and safety at sea to the Eight Great Dragon Kings (guardians of the sea). It takes place at Shirataki Coast. After the prayer on the sandy beach, children dressed as Urashima Taro ride on a papier-mâché sea turtle, surrounded by fishing flags, and head out to sea to offer sake and rice cakes to the dragon god in a unique festival.
