Hatsuuma Festival - Fire Prevention Tiger Dance

Fire prevention event since about 650 years ago
The old Nakaushida district has frequently suffered from large fires due to strong spring winds. The fire prevention dance, handed down since the Muromachi period, takes inspiration from the Chinese story "The clouds follow the dragon, and the wind follows the tiger." It is said to have originated from the offering of the tiger dance at the Inari Myojin Hatsuuma Festival to appease the winds by borrowing the power of the tiger. Accompanied by festive music, colorful floats and tigers parade through the town, praying for disaster prevention and family safety. In front of the Hanagaku Koji Festival Headquarters, several tigers performing a magnificent dance from atop a high roof.
